A group of local amateur artists are gearing up for their annual exhibition, with the public encouraged to come along or even join them.
Midlothian Community Artists holds its annual arts exhibition at Dalkeith Arts centre next week, November 3-6 from 10am to 4pm each day.
The group’s president Daniel Burt (75), is looking forward to this year’s event.
He said: “We are always excited about the exhibition. Our members have worked hard during the year to put their stuff up on the wall.
“We have a preview night on Monday with invited guests. That’s always good to kick it off. In the exhibition we have a variety of paintings. Some oils, acrylics. Charcoal drawings. Abstract. Everything really. All for sale.
“We have got about 80 on display this year. All works from local amateur artists.”
Midlothian Community Artists currently has 20 members, aged from 65-85. They meet at Newbattle Community Learning Centre in Newtongrange every Tuesday 10am-12pm, and Thursday 7-9pm.
Daniel added: “We are always looking for new members. We could do with some younger members.
“It’s been going for 15 years now I think. We are kind of self help just now as we don’t have a tutor, but we help each other.
“Sometimes we take part in community events too.
“I think we play a reasonably prominent part in the community, and we manage to get a small grant each year from Midlothian Council to help with rental expenses.”
