Two Midlothian artists have won awards at the 134th Annual Exhibition of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour.
Alison Dunlop RSW, who lives in Crichton won the Art Centre Kelty, Bespoke Framing Award and Derek Robertson Artist Residency. While, Dalkeith-based Australian student Ruth Thomas won the £300 RSW Student Prize.
Describing her winning painting ‘Inner Sound: Headland I’, Alison said: “This is part of a series I began in 2009, when I first started working in my new studio in Wester Ross.
“ It is my attempt to find an equivalent in paint for the experience of looking out to the seas of the Inner Sound and the Minch.
“As the series has grown, with this new reality of water and sky seen through my windows, the images have become more and more abstract, pared-down, re-defined.
“The process of pressing forward with this new imagery, not knowing what the next piece will bring or where it will take me, is very exciting - it has taken on an energy of its own.”
