The site of the former Dalkeith High School could become a combined council and police headquarters, the Advertiser can reveal.
As well as making “substantial” savings, the ambitious project could see up to 2,300 employees moved into a shared building at Newmills Road.
Should plans come to fruition, the set-up would mirror that of West Lothian, where the police and council share headquarters in Livingston.
Councillor Jim Bryant (SNP) told a meeting of Dalkeith Community Council: “It’s definitely an idea. Our current buildings are all over the place and the maintenance is costing a fortune.”
