Midlothian residents are to have a bigger say in how their local authority is run, according to the woman set to become its first female leader.
Councillor Lisa Beattie (SNP), who officially takes over the reins at Midlothian House on May 22, has pledged to make sure that there is far greater participation from members of the public in matters of local governance.
In the wake of the recent Midlothian Council election, her party seized power by forming an historic coalition with Independent Peter de Vink. Now Mrs Beattie is calling on residents to “get involved” in the running of the local authority.
She explained: “I’d like to see some participation from the public. I know, because a lot of them have told me, that they wish to have a bigger say in how this council is run.”
