Council plans to provide Penicuik with a new £1.3 million recycling centre have been abandoned.
In the wake of concerns at the proposed site of Eastfield Farm Road raised by local residents and Strathesk Primary, the council is to refurbish the existing site at a cost of £300,000.
Councillor Derek Rosie, cabinet member with responsibility for recycling, said: “There were concerns raised by local people about where the new centre would sit, especially in relation to Strathesk Primary.
“We have listened and the decision is to extend and improve the current recycling centre on Bellmans Road.
“We feel this is a move that will benefit the whole community and help improve our recycling rates.”
