Midlothian election claim sparks anger

Midlothian Council’s housing boss has hit out at an election candidate’s criticism of the Labour Party’s record on building homes.

In last week’s Advertiser, we asked those standing in the forthcoming Scottish parliament election how they would create more jobs in the county.

Midlothian South SNP candidate Christine Grahame said her party had created 525 council houses in the county, while Labour in four years built six across Scotland and none in Midlothian.

Midlothian Council’s housing spokesman Councillor Jim Muirhead has called for Ms Grahame to retract the statement and “apologise to the people of Midlothian”.
