An historic Midlothian church has attracted more than £10,500 in funding to replace its iron railings.

Glencorse Parish Church, an A Listed building, is to receive £6680 in landfill tax funds from WREN. The remainder of will be met by the local environmental fund of Councillor Russell Imrie.

The kirk’s fabric convenor Bob Macgregor said: “The church is 125 years old and we don’t know when the railings were put in, but they are suffering from the ravages of time. Bits are falling away, and they don’t all match. There has been some replacement done, but it doesn’t tie in with that was there originally.”

The church is in the process of seeking planning and listed building consent from Midlothian Council. Historic Scotland is also involved, given the building’s important status.
