Alzheimer Scotland – Action on Dementia is the leading dementia organisation in the country, providing a wide range of specialist services for people with dementia and their families and carers.

We offer personalised support services, community activities, information and advice, at every stage of the dementia journey. There are currently over 90,000 people in Scotland living with a diagnosis of dementia, with over 1,400 of those people living in Midlothian. The number of people with dementia in Scotland is expected to double within a generation – rising to 180,000 in the next 20-30 years.

Alzheimer Scotland provides a day care service in Bonnyrigg, supporting around 50 people who all live in Midlothian.

The primary purpose of the service is to provide high-quality, person-centred activities and support for people with dementia. A secondary outcome of the service is that carers manage to have a break while their loved one is supported by us. This is essential as caring for someone with dementia is often very demanding and carers can become ill themselves. Our support means they can have a few hours to themselves to do the things they like, knowing their loved one is safe and secure in a stimulating and supportive environment.

We would like to extend the activities we can offer within The Bungalow. Our plan is to knock down the conservatory and build a larger sun room in its place, affording us the opportunity to provide a room for arts, crafts and musical activities.

With your support we can transform our service in Midlothian and offer even more activities in a comfortable setting, and help people with dementia to live well.
