The British Red Cross has teamed up with Midlothian Council to combat loneliness and isolation amongst the county’s elderly.
The Community Co-ordination project is designed to help older people access activity groups in their local community, to get involved through volunteering or to start up their own group.
Lesley Kerr, Red Cross health and social care manager for Midlothian, explained: “Many older people are living on their own and find it very lonely. This project aims to get these people back into their communities and support them to enjoy a full and positive life.”
