Midlothian reading challenge will be out of this world

Young people in Midlothian can keep themselves entertained this summer with a science fiction reading challenge.

The annual Teen Read is for young people aged 11 to 14 who are entitled to teenage membership of all Midlothian Libraries.

From science fiction to books about space and fantasy, the theme for this year’s event can best described as ‘out of this world’.

Councillor Lisa Beattie (SNP), Cabinet Member for Libraries, said: “This challenge is for young people who have progressed beyond the Summer Reading Challenge and offers all sorts of books to take you out of this world and into the world of knowledge, imagination and creativity – so there is something for everyone.”

The quest to read six books over the summer begins on Friday, June 21. There is also the chance to be entered into a draw for the chance to win an Amazon voucher.

The council is also looking for young reviewers. To submit a review please fill in a review postcard available at all Midlothian libraries or on our website.
