AROUND 250 jobs are to be created after Scottish Ministers overruled objections to a £13 million tourism gateway in Midlothian.

The Fordel View bid by Oakridge Property Ltd was approved by Midlothian councillors last year, despite planning officers recommending it for refusal.

It was then ‘called in’ by the Scottish Government because of implications for the Edinburgh and the Lothians Structure Plan, the Midlothian Local Plan and Scottish Planning Policy.

The Reporter recommended refusal, but ministers this week gave the go-ahead for the application to create a tourist orientation centre, retail outlet and hotel at Fordel Mains on the outskirts of Dalkeith.
