Aging Newbattle High School is to be rebuilt following a successful bid for Scottish Government funding.
Funding for a new state of the art building will be through the Scottish Futures Trust, using the ‘Non Profit Distribution’ model.
This will ensure that the school will be built and owned by the community and not, as with many other Midlothian schools, under long term contract to a private enterprise.
Welcoming the boost for Gorebridge and Mayfield, the communities that are served by the school, Midlothian MSP Colin Beattie (SNP) said: “I am delighted to hear Newbattle High has been chosen for rebuilding in the latest round of school projects.
“I am looking forward to our children being educated in a state-of-the-art building within which their full potential can be developed and nurtured.
“This is good news for Midlothian and for parents and children within the catchment area of the school.
“We need to proceed as quickly as possible so that all can benefit.”
