The Muir Maxwell Trust supported Mhairi and her family through this difficult time and she has been an active volunteer for the charity since she was 14.

Mhairi said: “The money raised will help improve the quality of life of those with the condition and their families, whilst also funding vital research into the causes and treatment of severe childhood epilepsy.”

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers played at the glittering ball that was co-chaired by Mhairi and Grant Stott.

Ann Maxwell OBE, the Muir Maxwell Trust founder and volunteer fundraiser, who comes from East Lothian, said: “It’s a great honour for the Muir Maxwell Trust to be Mhairi’s chosen charity during her year as Miss Scotland.
