Moderator of General Assembly named

A WOMAN minister who began her church career in the Capital has been named as the next Moderator of the Church of Scotland’s General Assembly.

The Rev Lorna Hood spent a year as a probationer assistant at St Ninian’s Parish Church, Corstorphine and was ordained there in April 1978 before being called the following year to be minister at Renfrew North Parish Church, where she has continued for the past 33
years.

During that time, she served for 22 years as chaplain at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where she was part of a team which pioneered a care plan for those who had suffered loss during pregnancy or shortly after.

She also served as vice-convener of the Kirk’s business committee and was a Queen’s chaplain.

Her year as Moderator will begin on the opening day of the Assembly next May.
