IT is hoped that a dedication service will be held at Newtongrange War Memorial around Easter for the soon to be added names to Newtongrange Community Council.
This recognition for those locals that lost their lives fighting for their country has been steered by Newtongrange Community Council, with assistance from local historian John Duncan - who in researching James Holgate, uncovered another seven names to be inscribed onto the memorial.
The seven names to be added from World War Two are James Holgate, William Meek, George Nobel, John Herbert, Malcolm McLean, William Currie and Thomas Dea.
George Ross will be added to the list of those killed in World War One.
Newtongrange-based councillors Bryan Pottinger (Lab) and Catherine Johnstone (SNP) supplied the £650 needed to engrave the names on the war memorial. The work is now awaiting approval from the council.
