Morrisons has submitted a detailed planning application to develop the former Dalkeith bus depot site – bringing around 200 jobs.
Development executive Richard Bakes said: “We are delighted that our planning application has been submitted bringing us a step closer to bring our ‘Fresh Market’ offering to Dalkeith.
“Morrisons is dedicated to growth in Scotland and our ambitious plans for Dalkeith will benefit the local area in a number of ways.
“The site will provide new, local jobs and enhanced choice for shoppers, whilst we also hope the development will act as a catalyst for further regeneration.
“The site has already been ear-marked as a potential location for a new foodstore and Morrisons hopes to deliver, not only enhanced choice to shoppers, but also the development of a currently vacant site in the heart of Dalkeith, which is hoped would lead to further regeneration of the town.”
Should the planning application be successful, the site will generate around 200 local jobs, with excellent training and development.
Working with local councils and agencies such as Job Centre Plus, Morrisons makes a point of recruiting for new stores within the local area. Historically this has proven to be a highly successful scheme.
