MP backs campaign to help unpaid carers

A WEST Lothian MP has said more should be done to
support unpaid carers.

Graeme Morrice, who represents Livingston, has thrown his weight behind a Carers UK campaign urging carers to claim the support to which they are entitled.

It is estimated that there are 6.4 million carers in Britain who save NHS and local authority budgets £119 billion per year but often suffer financially or emotionally because of their responsibilities.

Mr Morrice said: “Carers are fulfilling a vital role in our
society, but too often they go without the support they need.

“We must all play a role in helping to identify and support people who are looking after
ill, frail or disabled loved ones – particularly if they are looking after young children as well.”
