MP Lazarowicz joins calls to ban fascist march in Capital

A LEADING Labour politician has added his voice to calls for the city council to ban a proposed march by right-wing extremists.

The Scottish Defence League (SDL) wants to hold a march through Edinburgh on September 10.

However, Edinburgh North & Leith Labour MP Mark Lazarowicz said the council must not grant permission.

He said: “The SDL was set up to imitate similar neo-fascist groups in England, and the vast majority of Scots abhor everything it stands for.

“Edinburgh is an open, welcoming city and we will not stand by as violent thugs try and spread their hateful message.

“This is a march designed to celebrate hatred and that is simply wrong.

“The council will invoke the fury of the whole city if it allows this march to proceed.”
