A member of the SNP-led administration has called on her party colleagues to abandon plans to close Newtongrange Library.
MSP Christine Grahame (SNP) has also spoken out against the proposals – part of a package of closures being considered.
Midlothian South Councillor Catherine Johnstone (SNP) has signed a petition to keep Newtongrange Library open and said she would urge her colleagues not to close it.
The council has put forward proposals to close eight community facilities in Newtongrange, Gorebridge and Mayfield as part of plans for the replacement Newbattle High School, with facilities moving to a community hub at the new school.
Newtongrange Library is one of the facilities under threat.
