Colin Beattie MSP has praised the hard work of police officers in Midlothian for making local communities safer, as figures show the number of homicides in the area has decreased dramatically.
New figures published by the Scottish Government show that in 2014/15 the number of homicides in Midlothian fell to zero – down from three in 2013/14.
Mr Beattie (SNP) said: “These are hugely encouraging figures and are a testament to the hard-work of our police officers and other law-enforcement agencies in making our communities safer. With 1,000 extra officers on the streets since 2007 and strong action to tackle the scourge of knife crime and alcohol abuse in our communities, the Scottish Government has made significant progress in making Scotland a safer place to live. However, while these figures are very welcome, it’s important that we are not complacent.”
