Midlothian South MSP Christine Grahame has launched her annual Christmas card competition throughout the primary schools in her constituency.
The theme this year is “Peace at Christmas” and Ms Grahame will donate £250 to the Scottish Refugee Council after the winner has been announced.
She said: “With so much conflict in the world I thought it would be good to get the youngsters thinking about peace as Christmas should be a peaceful time.
“This is the 17th year I have run the competition and entries each year have multiplied and I get as excited as the children when it comes to choosing a winner!”
The pupil with the winning design will join Ms Grahame at their school in early December to present the cheque to a representative of the Scottish Refugee Charity and will also be invited to join her along with three of their guests for a tour of the Scottish Parliament and lunch.
Ms Grahame added: “I have already received entries and am asking for further entries to be submitted to my Edinburgh office by Friday, November 25, and judging will take place the following week. I will be in touch with the winner shortly after and the cards will be printed with the winning design in time to be sent out to my many contacts.
“I hope as many children as possible will enter the competition and I am already looking forward to seeing all of the designs coming through the post.”
