Scotland’s Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland’s Languages has launched a pioneering new National Certificate in Celtic Studies at Newbattle Abbey College.

Dr Alasdair Allan MSP formally unveiled the qualification during a recent Celtic Festival at the college.

He said: “We are committed to strengthening learning about Scotland, with improved access to learning about Scotland’s history, heritage, culture and languages.

“We are taking forward the recommendations of the Scottish Studies Working Group, which included Newbattle Abbey College and options are being explored for an Award in Scottish Studies by SQA.

“I am very pleased to see that we are not the only ones moving in this direction and a new National Certificate (NC) in Celtic Studies will greatly enhance the understanding of Celtic language and culture amongst those who take it on.”
