A prominent building in Gorebridge will soon be given a makeover after a new owner was found for the property which had lay empty for years.
Newbyres Hall was last occupied in 2007 by a catering company and has fallen into disrepair since.
Now a nursery has taken over the former masonic hall, which means £80,000 set aside by the Gorebridge Conservation and Regeneration Scheme (CARS), to fund up to 75 per cent of the work on it, can now be used to improve the look of the building.
Councillor Jim Muirhead (Lab) sits on the board of the CARS project, along with fellow councillor Catherine Johnstone (SNP).
He said: “Newbyres Hall was the priority project for the CARS scheme because of its prominence in the Main Street, so there was money set aside to renovate it and do some work outside the hall to lift the look of the area up a bit.
“There is a lot of hurdles to go over yet but somebody has purchased it and we can now move forward with the work.”
