New hopes have been raised to save an historic Loanhead house.
A project to restore the deteriorating Mavisbank House has been on the back burner for the past five years as funding opportunities dried up and costs rose.
However, the current economic climate has seen predicted renovation costs fall, and a renewed interest in the future of the house and grounds.
Midlothian Council has been asked to join forces with the Mavisbank Preservation Trust and Historic Scotland to iron out any difficulties, which have hampered previous attempts to restore the house.
The council was also asked to agree in principle to consider using its powers to buy the house and grounds and pass on ownership to the trust.
