Pupils from both Roslin and Paradykes rushed to get into their classrooms to enjoy their brand new primary schools last week.
The Paradykes replacement school in the new Loanhead Centre has capacity for 489 pupils, and will eventually have a full size football pitch and all-weather multi-use games area. Roslin can accommodate 267 primary pupils.
The new £15.4 million Loanhead Centre was also opened. The first project to be developed in partnership with Scottish Futures Trust, Midlothian and NHS Lothian, it incorporates Paradykes Primary, Loanhead Library, Loanhead Leisure centre, Loanhead Medical Centre and early years’ provision.
Midlothian Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Jim Muirhead (Lab) said: “It’s wonderful to see both Roslin and the Loanhead Centre, including Paradykes Primary School, now open.
“These are well designed spaces to be enjoyed by our young people and the wider community. We hope as many people as possible will come along and find out what’s on offer at both buildings. Many thanks to everyone who helped with the building work and indeed the design.”
