Newbattle litter louts under fire

THOUGHTLESS young people are being accused of causing a serious litter problem in a Midlothian community.

Residents and police are urging pupils of Newbattle Community High School to stop dropping food containers along neighbouring streets and lanes.

Routes to school have become clogged with fast-food containers, plastic bottles and cans, prompting police to dub the area Paperbag Alley.

The littering blight was discussed during a recent meeting of Newtongrange Community Council.
