Community activists in Newtongrange have vowed to keep up the fight despite assurances that no community buildings will close there.
Villagers are happy that the buildings look likely to remain open following recent council promises. But they want the maintenance backlog cleared.
The Newtongrange Stakeholders group have been led by Newtongrange Community Council during the consultation on Newbattle High.
Chairman Jason Ferry told a meeting last week of his delight that the community had pulled together and won its fight. But he wants to carry on, adding that a new petition regarding the maintenance of the ‘saved’ buildings had begun.
John Dimnet, of the Library Action Group was also at the meeting, he spoke of how the recent campaign had brought the village together.
