Plans are under way to create a new arts centre complex in Newtongrange, complete with a much-needed theatre for the county.
Midlothian Council has applied to Creative Scotland for part of the funding needed for the ambitious project to build an arts centre at the National Mining Museum Scotland, close to the new train station for Newtongrange.
Although plans are at a very early stage, it is hoped the new facility would not only bring top entertainment acts to the area but also visitors, thanks to the Borders Railway,
Councillor Lisa Beattie (SNP), cabinet member for arts and creativity, said: “The council has submitted a bid to Creative Scotland regarding the feasibility of a first-class arts centre at the Scottish Mining Museum.”
