Newtongrange Children’s Gala Day took place on Saturday, with thousands turning out despite a drop in temperature.
Charlie Griffiths was crowned King and Saffron Cunningham crowned Queen.
The gala day committee chairperson Denise Gillies said: “I am proud of all the gala court kids, they did Newtongrange proud. As did the gala day youth committee who worked so hard.
“It was a cold day, but at least it was dry. I think the chill affected numbers that came into the park.
“We still had a good crowd, but obviously people didn’t linger too long as it was cold, but everybody still enjoyed themselves. The feedback has been great on Facebook.
“The parade was excellent. A lot of people commented on how good it was this year.
“The whole week was good fun. The treasure hunt, the magic show and the disco were all great. I have to thank the Dean Tavern for hosting some of the events too.
“The committee is all exhausted now though!”
Denise added: “We are going to fundraise throughout the summer, hopefully utilise the park more.”
