NEWTONGRANGE Community Council wants to create a “combined voice” to fight plans to close community facilities in the village.
They hope to bring together the four quickly-formed groups that are against plans to close Newtongrange Library, Newbattle Community Learning Centre, Newtongrange Leisure Centre and Newbattle Pool. The community council has already worked with the Newtongrange Library Action Group on a survey.
At last week’s Newtongrange Community Council meeting, chairman Jason Ferry described “divide and conquer” tactics used by the council as “concerning” ahead of a public meeting on April 15.
