The Dean Tavern Trust has denied that anything untoward was involved in a recent change of management at the Newtongrange pub.

Locals at the community-run Gothenburg pub contacted The Advertiser to find out why manager John Byrn had suddenly left without warning last month with a temporary manager taking over.

One regular, who didn’t want to be named said: “Everyone in the pub wants to know what’s going on.

“They should just come out and say what’s happening. It would put all the rumours to bed.”

A spokesman for the Dean Tavern Trust said: “The current management have decided to move on by mutual consent, there will be a temporary manager in place until the job is advertised and a suitable candidate can be found.”
