NEWTONGRANGE Children’s Gala celebrates its 99th year with a feast of activities next week.
The packed programme of events gets under way on Sunday when fancy dress contestants assemble on Bryans Corner at 1.45pm.
They will then parade to Welfare Park for the judging.
The park will also be the venue for seven-a-side football competitions for adults and children.
Monday sees the Children’s Gala join with other local youth organisations to take part in the procession marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The parade of flaming torches will start from Bryans Corner at 8pm and go through the village to the National Mining Museum, where the Children’s Gala Queen will light a beacon destined for the top of the winding tower.
On Thursday, there is a children’s disco at Newbattle Community Learning Centre in Gardiner Place from 6-8pm. For the younger children, this will be preceded by a magic show from 6-7pm.
Newtongrange Silver Band will be giving a concert in the Dean Tavern from 7.30 pm on Wednesday.
There will be a treasure hunt in Welfare Park on Thursday from 7.30pm.
