PEOPLE using the proceeds of crime to fund their lifestyles are being targeted in a new intelligence-gathering campaign.
Lothian and Borders Police has launched “Made from Crime”, the first POCA (Proceeds of Crime Act) initiative of its kind in Scotland.
It has the backing of the Scottish Government and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, and is designed to allow officers to seize assets that have been purchased through criminal activity.
For the first time, people will be able to report their concerns online – anonymously if they wish – using Facebook or via Bluetooth to link directly to the Crimestoppers website.
Assistant Chief Constable Iain Livingstone joined Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill and Solicitor General Lesley Thomson QC to launch the campaign last Monday.
