North Berwick incident: Firefighters tackle major blaze at masonic hall

Local residents have been evacuated from their properties on Forth Street in North Berwick following a fire at the Old Masons Hall.

The street in the East Lothian village is currently closed as a result of the ongoing incident and traffic has been reported in the area.

Emergency services are still in attendance and no casualties have been reported at this time.

Scottish Fire and Rescue services sent six appliances to the scene at around 7am this morning including a height vehicle to the two-storey Masonic Hall where smoke could be seen billowing from the windows.

Local residents were evacuated from their properties to escape the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 6.57am on Monday, November 9 to an automatic fire alarm signal at Forth Street, North Berwick, East Lothian."Operations Control mobilised six appliances including a height vehicle to the two-storey Masonic Hall where smoke could be seen issuing from the windows."Crews evacuated neighbouring properties as they worked to locate and extinguish the fire."There are no reported casualties at this time."Firefighters remain at the scene."

Police Scotland are assisting the Fire services at the incident.

A police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called at around 7.40am this morning to a report of a fire in Forth Street, North Berwick.

"Officers assisted colleagues in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service with traffic management and the road is currently closed.”
