After 21 months, 36,000 tons of earthworks and 2,500 tons of concrete, the subsidence-hit A6106 at Lugton has finally been reopened.

The stretch of repaired road was declared open to vehicles around lunchtime yesterday (March 28).

Councillor Derek Rosie (SNP), cabinet member with responsibility for roads, said: “This has been a mammoth undertaking, a real feat of engineering because of excessive water penetrating the ground not to mention numerous other structural challenges.

“We’re really pleased to finally be able to say the repairs are finished and motorists can once again use this stretch.”
