Coronavirus: Nobody deserves a round of applause more than staff in the NHS – Hayley Matthews

The huge acknowledgment for all the hard-working NHS staff to whom we are so very much in debt was such a lovely gesture to show our appreciation on a massive scale.

However, if I’m honest I don’t think it’s anywhere near enough. They need to be appreciated ALL OF THE TIME, and regardless of the pandemic we face, we should be respecting these incredible people who put their needs last all the time, as do all the emergency services.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the applause is a lovely sentiment but they do need more. And I’ll tell you what they need more of: more support, more budget, more respect and more admiration for the work that they do.

I’ve written about the NHS many times and said how I think what they do, how they do it and the resources that they do it with are commendable. They’re stretched, tired, worked hard and put up with a lot of rubbish from the ungrateful. It’s disgusting and you better believe I tut and make comment when I hear nurses and doctors getting stick from those who feel entitled when getting treatment and help from the NHS.

So maybe something positive will come out of this situation after all. I’m hoping that the lifesaving NHS staff, from auxiliaries through to the brain surgeons, and everyone in between can ALL be appreciated. They are irreplaceable and indispensable so please I urge you, let’s treat them with a bit more respect and give them the admiration they deserve plus a bit more wonga from the budget wouldn’t go amiss either.
