Covid vaccine take-up shows Scotland is rejecting naysayers' myths and lies – Steve Cardownie

As the postie approached my front door, I feared the worst and waited for yet more bad news in the form of some bill or financial statement which was not likely to enhance my mood, particularly in the midst of the current lockdown.

It was bad enough that my normal social interaction had been severely curtailed (although with more than a little justification) without the further misery of a financial demand.

This time however a bright blue envelope caught my eye and, knowing that I had no connection with that provincial (meaning ‘out with the capital#) football team from the west of the Scotland, I was initially curious and soon after, delighted.

It was from the NHS and gave details of my Covid-19 vaccination appointment, which is next week and which cannot come soon enough.

The Scottish government has stated that over one million people in Scotland will have been vaccinated by the end of the week, including my 97-year-old mother, who hardly felt it being administered and has not suffered any side effects whatsoever (although, admittedly, this was not included in the government’s press release.)

I am delighted that the vaccine uptake has been so high and that the myths and downright lies, propagated by some naysayers, have evidently not taken hold and common sense has prevailed.

The more people line up for the jab the sooner we can begin to look forward to a return to normality, which has been a long time coming, but can now be confidently anticipated – and it is all down to science!
