Dear delivery drivers, please don't just leave parcels at the door – Hayley Matthews

I'm about to rant about delivery drivers, and I actually used to work as a delivery driver for a good while after being made redundant so I appreciate how stressful, physically exhausting and busy their job is.

But I also appreciate the importance of making sure someone has the parcel before you walk off back to your van.

I know I'm not the only one who's had a parcel pinched off their doorstop that's been "delivered" recently. And yes I appreciate drivers have to abide by Covid restrictions and keep their distance, but surely they can at least make sure you open the door and realise it's there before they leave, no?

I've put a note on my door begging the drivers of the various courier firms not to leave the parcel if there’s no answer. Or to at least put it next door with a neighbour.

My note states: "Do not leave on doorstep or it will be gone before you get back to your van!"

I'm sure companies insurance policies are being hit hard just now with "missing" and "lost" items because the amount of times I've had a box just left on the doorstep (lots of Christmas presents were bought online) it's a miracle they've still been there.

There's been one or two pinched which were replaced by the company I bought them from but seriously, come on guys, please just knock.

Never thought I'd say it but Dpd have actually been great recently and my postie, well she's just brilliant.

So a note to all the couriers who just dump stuff for anyone to pinch – just knock the bloody door!
