Don’t be like person who cut hole in Covid mask to make it ‘easier to breathe’ – Hayley Matthews

Make sure to stay informed about how not to spread the Covid-19 coronavirus, writes Hayley Matthews.

Now, I’m no scientist, and I don’t pretend to be. However, after watching a Facebook video of a nurse demonstrating how wearing gloves does not keep you safe from Covid-19, I have to admit I’ve been tempted to spread the news every time I see someone wearing gloves, pulling their phone out their pocket, touching their face, then a trolley, then their face again.

The video shows a nurse wearing gloves and using green paint to demonstrate how germs can be spread on to your belongings even though you’re wearing gloves – and all because of cross-contamination and touching everything whilst wearing gloves.

Once you take the gloves off, if you’ve touched loads of things then your blue latex hand fashion statement has all been in vain.

She also exclaims at the end of the video that you MUST bin them after and stop dropping them at your feet!

So my conclusion is that the gloves only work if you’re not cross-contaminating and that’s practically impossible if you’re touching stuff all the time! Imagine not touching your phone, keys, face, bag, wallet etc when you’ve got them on.

So is there any point? I hate seeing them discarded everywhere and it makes it even more unbearable if they’re actually not being used properly.

Maybe it’s better just washing your hands and using antibacterial gel regularly.

I’ve also read so many posts from doctors and nurses saying unless you’re a doctor, nurse or surgeon then you don’t need to wear gloves. I’m staying glove-free unless I’m cleaning a messy cat litter tray, but you make your own minds up.

But you do have to worry about some of our species – there’s that woman who cut a hole in her mask to help make it “easier to breathe” and we saw a guy lifting his mask down yesterday and there was a cheeky wee cigarette peeking out the top – lit of course.
