He sits surveying his new George Street store looking calm and collected in a classically cut suit. To me it appears rather on-trend, but he assures me that the grey pinstriped number is nothing new, and when it comes to men’s fashion, it is all about subtle changes.
Tiny tweaks here and there will be widely accepted, but do something ever so slightly off centre and prepare for it to sit on the shelve. I always suspected men were creatures of habit. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining when they look that good. There is no need to tinker with what’s clearly already working.

At the beginning of November, I spotted a fabulous rose gold ring reminiscent of a double spiked bullet across the knuckles of a girl at a fashion show. She turned out to be an up-and-coming jewellery designer called Jane Gowans. I enquired about the trinket and she told me it was part of her new spring summer Captain collection. This very collection is only being stocked in Harvey Nichols Edinburgh four weeks after I lusted after it. Remember her name, I’ve a feeling she’s going to be a big hit.
