Masking disregard of face mask safety – Hayley Matthews

How do we manage to disregard face masks so easily?

It confuses me and concerns me because for starters, the reason people are choosing/being told to wear a mask is to protect others from the virus.

So people who are wearing them have left their house in the morning with good intentions of protecting themselves and fellow civilians by wearing a mask.

However, at some point, that person throws away their mask. You can’t tell me there are thousands of people going round misplacing masks all the time – we’re not that stupid. No they’re being tossed away – I’m certain of it.

What confuses me is that we’re dealing with one of the world’s worst pandemics in a very long time and yet masks are littering the streets and I don’t see one biohazard bin in sight.

If you were in a hospital and saw a used mask lying on the floor I’m sure it would make your skin crawl. It is completely unhygienic too.

There should be some facilities in place to make sure people are disposing of their masks properly and hygienically, especially if we’re all so concerned with the spread of the virus.

I just don’t get it, and for so many reasons. I don’t get how people can be so concerned with the situation that they decide to wear a mask then just chuck it away like a cigarette end!

It’s disgusting and it’s not just one or two masks. The place is littered with them.

I heard a claim a few weeks ago that there are more masks in the sea now than there are jelly fish and if it’s true then we need to do something pronto!
