Talk of the Town: Make a big gesture to show your love

BT decided to lend love a hand by offering the chance to share Valentine’s Day messages via the massive screens peppered throughout the country – including the city’s Festival Square.

Romantics are invited to send their loving lines to [email protected], tweet them with the hash tag #loveisallaround, or text them to 83310 starting with LOVE and ending with your 120-character Valentine message.

What the Dickens?

CULTURE Secretary Jeremy Hunt showed some imagination with his idea of presenting each of his colleagues with a work by Charles Dickens to help mark the 200th anniversary of the author’s birth.

The novels he selected for each member of the government supposedly reflected their character and ministerial role. Former Lothians MSP Lord Foulkes hoped Mr Hunt’s gesture would extend to independence-seeking First Minister Alex Salmond.

He said: “I understand one on its way to Bute House – is it Great Expectations?”

New app blasts off

WITH the Muppets movie about to hit the big screen, nostalgic fans will no doubt be fondly remembering their favourite moments from the TV show.

And anyone who counts Pigs in Space as the best Muppet sketch will no doubt be eager to snap up the latest app from Edinburgh company Lucky Frame, featuring as it does Pugs in Space. The company announced the release of Pug synth on iTunes, a follow-up to its hugely successful game Pugs Luv Beats.

Youth spread their wings

IT’s hard to imagine that anything could compete with the wonders of television when it comes to distracting teenagers.

But with endless channels showing nothing but repeats it seems a new darling has swept in to capture the attention of Edinburgh’s “yoof” – Twitter.

A new survey has revealed that social media is now the favourite “hobby” of 16-24 year old across Scotland, with Capital teens “social surfing” for up to three hours a day.

The survey also revealed that they tweet from everywhere, including court, sex shops and even hospital operating tables.

Quite how anyone would describe their ongoing surgery in 120 characters or fewer was not explained.
