There should be no drop-off in caring during this crisis – Hayley Matthews

During the week we took some tins down to the Wilson Memorial Basics Bank after seeing a post on the church’s Facebook page detailing how they’re managing to keep the Basics Bank Food Bank going through the Covid-19 crisis.

For the most part their supplies are keeping up with demand, but they are running low on some things. They’d put out a post to ask if any locals in the area were able to make donations of items like toilet rolls, tinned potatoes, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, sugar, breakfast cereals, soap and dog food

We gathered a few bags of items and explained to our eight-year-old that if we’re able to help others in these very strange times, we’re doing something positive.

If you have a spare morning and an extra penny to pick up some items then I’m sure they’d be grateful for any donations as food banks seem to be more in demand than ever just know. When we dropped off our bags for them the lovely ladies at the door told us how they get no help or funding and they are grateful for anything dropped off.

Donations can be left on Sunday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm, or on Tuesday morning between 10am and 1pm at the rear door of Wilson Memorial Church (off Kekewich Avenue) and in their words not mine: “Please knock loudly (we’re no getting any younger!).”
