Welcome back Craig Gordon. Welcome back Robbie Neilson. The news that the former Hearts goalkeeper is joining the new manager at Tynecastle will come as a great boost. Regardless of what happens in the legal challenge to the Jam Tarts’ relegation, a declaration of intent has been served: Hearts will be a team to be reckoned with in the Premiership or the Championship.

Craig Gordon made more than 100 appearances for Hearts before signing for Sunderland and more recently Celtic. With 54 caps for Scotland, he is keen to secure regular first team football to add to his tally for the national side.

Tomorrow the Court of Session will hear arguments before Lord Clark via video conference in the court action taken against the Scottish Professional Football League and three clubs by Hearts and Partick Thistle, who are challenging their respective relegation from the Premiership and Championship.

Scotland’s professional footballers were able to resume contact training for the first time yesterday as lockdown restrictions were eased. It’s a real shame that despite Scottish football beginning its return, we are still none the wiser as to how the new league will look.

It is a tremendous shame that the SPFL failed to agree to league reconstruction which would have kept Hearts, Partick Thistle and League One’s bottom side Stranraer up. Basic fairness would have been served, the court action avoided and uncertainty about the new season dispelled.
