Karen Koren: Grant has some funny tales to tell

It was reported that he was going to concentrate on his tour, “Tales From Behind the Mic”! This is the show that celebrated a total sell-out run at the Gilded Balloon last Fringe - we even had to put on extra shows, which also sold out.

It is no wonder then that Grant was keen to tour the show, which had its first night on Sunday at Eastwood Park Theatre, Giffnock.

I watched a run through of the show last week and it is looking great. Grant has had to make the show a lot longer, as in the Festival our shows are normally only an hour long. On tour the show needs to be in two halves with an interval. Grant has worked very hard putting in new material and he has written a new song to add to his now legendary That’s Fife which is sung to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s That’s Life!

The new song is to the tune of the Sound of Music’s My Favourite Things. I will say no more as to the content, as I don’t want to give the game away. It’s very funny, and safe to say that some members of the public may be a little taken aback by the lyrics.

Before Grant goes back out on the road though, he will be performing at the King’s Theatre in Allan Stewart’s Big Big Variety Night, which is on all week.

Guests include Elaine C Smith, Britain’s Got Talent star Edward Reid and surprise guest is the legendary 70s band Pilot, who will be performing their hits Magic and January.

Variety lives at the King’s this week and ends on Saturday. Unfortunately, Allan and Grant’s pal Andy Gray can’t be in the show as he is currently filming River City on BBC One Scotland.

Grant goes out with his show Tales from Behind the Mic after that and in venues around Scotland - dates on the Gilded Balloon website. The tour will end at the King’s Theatre on May 7, just a few days before Grant’s birthday.
