"After problems at Sick Kids and Glasgow, it doesn't fill me with assurance”

Eye Pavilion

A petition has been launched by Tory MSP Miles Briggs calling on Nicola Sturgeon to reverse the Scottish government’s decision not to fund a new eye hospital for Edinburgh

Andi Hannah

I’m sure if they asked the doctors that worked there whether they would prefer a new eye hospital or a £500 bonus, most doctors, who earn around £80k, would have preferred that money to be put into the NHS.

What worries me is that the Sick Kids hospital has been built and could not open and a hospital in Glasgow was built and was not fit to open, and now they want to build and open an eye hospital. It doesn't fill me with assurance.

Colin Moss

No decision has been made. The Scottish government is waiting on the options appraisal from Lothian Health Board. This hasn't been finished yet, and will then need analysed.

Paul Taylor

Sorry, it won't happen. She needs the money to train her people how to answer the questions about the Alex Salmond fiasco.

Lisa Jane Rowan

Can we also do something about the seriously underfunded area of dermatology. The NHS waiting list is huge and is now the busiest service for private hospitals. Stress plays a huge part in dermatology issues. We are seeing a rise in cases. SNP are just pushing people to private health care.

On the Eye Pavilion subject, it’s a total no brainer – it must stay open.

Mark Fairbairn

I can see all the wee independents getting decent votes next election. The so-called big players have messed up and that’s very politely put. Disgrace from them.

Tommy Moore

It’s nice that Miles Briggs believes in something!

Elaine Wilkie

For god’s sake, there’s a hospital for the kids still waiting to be fixed. SNP have trams unfinished, the bridge needs additional work for it to work as they said it would. Trams to be paid for so that they can go to Ocean Terminal, where there is nothing to see or do at an empty shopping centre. Hmm.

David Mcque

Now we know where the money for her independence task force came from.

Can I start one for him too? Say why he voted for Brexit when he knew the damage it would do the Scottish economy.

Sandy Howden

So it should. £26million has been set aside by the Scottish government for overseas development when that matter is reserved to Westminster. The UK gives £billions to aid. On top of that the Scottish government have creamed off £16m for an Indy ref. This money would save the hospital and give Edinburgh an eye hospital it deserves.

Festival fears

Edinburgh festivals chief warns they are in peril and their revival as world leaders is not a 'foregone conclusion'

Tom MacDonald

Without the ability or confidence to travel as we did before, Edinburgh, never mind the Fringe, is in BIG trouble.

Daniel Cranmer

Perfect time to start from scratch.

There has been far to much reliance on tourism for many years in Edinburgh and it is now catching up with the city. That alongside the fact that the residents had enough of the saturation levels of the past few years.

Margaret Quinn

Of course the festivals will return as strong as before. Let's be positive.

Stuart Young

Some of the things associated with that festival were just utter nonsense. The whole thing needs looked at anyway.

David Donnachie

Should be run by Edinburgh companies in conjunction with Edinburgh Council.

Taking the knee

The First Minister said she has “no doubt” every member of the Scottish rugby squad stands firmly behind the fight against racism despite only four players choosing to take the knee ahead of Saturday’s Twickenham match.

Margot Buchanan

Since when has taking the knee been compulsory? Not taking the knee does not necessarily mean someone is racist.

Joe MacReany

I see there’s nae mention of the seven English team players that didn’t take the knee on Saturday! Or the referees. Not taking the knee is personal choice and certainly doesn’t mean you’re racist.

Fiona Orr

Not a single player knelt at Wales v Ireland.
