Flight refund

If you change your flight for another date (hoping for green light) rather than cancelling or asking for a refund, Ryanair will charge you for this service. It’s ridiculous - people are only trying to be safe and keep within government guidelines.

This is why it's advisory and not illegal. If the UK government made it illegal to travel to amber list countries then they would have to prop up the travel companies financially. Sadly customers are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Stephen Taylor

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of this case, £300 for a Ryanair return flight from the UK to Mallorca outside the school holidays seems a bit steep.

Adam Mitchell

I was told by Ryanair, when I asked for a refund on our flights to Fuerteventura in July, that if the flight is still happening then I won’t be able to get a refund, no matter what the government guidelines say!

Melissa Rumsey Reed

Ryanair was crap pre-pandemic. I can only imagine how horrible they are now.

Ryanair are a law unto themselves. They are so antiquated, I'm surprised that their planes don't have outside toilets.

Joyce Nicoll

Ryanair are just trying to survive, like many other companies. If companies like them go under then cheap air travel will end for all. Just accept - you booked this in uncertain times.

Lee Dickenson

If you're stupid enough to be booking holidays abroad I have no sympathy. Help our economy recover and stay here. There are lovely holidays to be had all over the UK, particularly in Scotland where I must have about 100 things pinned on my Google map!

Annalisa NyLa

Well, it is written everywhere in their website that if you cannot travel, you are not gonna have a refund, but you can change dates without paying any extra fee. I mean, if you want to book a £300 flight to go on holiday in the middle of a pandemic, maybe, and I say maybe, you should be 100% per cent positive of getting a refund before buying it.

It's Ryanair. They will send an aircraft with two people on board rather than cancel and refund. Customer service is non existent. O'Leary believes (rightly) that people have short memories and will book with them because they are cheap. Bear in mind also, that they intend to introduce the 737 Max as soon as possible. I'd rather pay more to avoid Ryanair and the Max!

Callum Anderson

If you're booking flights in the middle of a pandemic you should be prepared to lose out if things take a turn for the worse.

Tallulah Michelle Ward

Why have government rules or advice if it means airlines can tell you different? So basically we can book whatever we want, and not worry about any so called traffic light system. Even when the pandemic started in 2019 they wouldn't refund either but allowed changes for £180 each! Really…

Bryan Wood

I agree with Ryanair, you can't expect a refund for simply deciding not to go.

If the flight departs, then Ryanair don't have to offer a refund. It is currently not illegal to travel to an amber country, so the flight will depart and it is people’s choice as to whether or not they travel. Ryanair aren't breaking the law and a refund will only be issued if they cancel the flight or it becomes illegal to travel.

Darren Mackay

Stupid idea to book a trip a year in advance, during a pandemic, without any idea of what the situation would be.

Lorna Bonnar

Typical Ryanair. I certainly will not be travelling with them ever again.

Gus Stewart

Ryanair sold him a ticket for a flight..the flight is going, so sorry, no cancellation.

What's the problem? It's not illegal to go there, just inconvenient. Ryanair's crap booking terms are known in advance. Not really anything to moan about.

Lee Paton

It isn’t Ryanair’s job to check what you’re doing.

Tom McVey

If you book a flight or holiday during a pandemic you are taking a chance that you may lose your money I want to go on holiday but I'll book with one weeks notice

Tracey Turner

So what, change the dates and get over it!
