Edinburgh’s Spaces for People measures are set to be in place for a further 18 months
Guy Kerr
"However, critics say the council is avoiding the formal TRO process because it would force them to consult with residents ahead of implementing the Spaces for People schemes, unlike the ETROs which can be introduced without prior consultation." Remember folks, this is the devious and underhanded way the CEC are treating their city residents with contempt by using ETROs and they will stop at nothing to inflict these measures on us!

Hide AdThanks EEN for photo. Shows the lack of use of the cycle lane and the additional pavement space on Morningside Road. Any relationship between SfP and the increased number of To Let signs on commercial properties on what was one of the best local shopping streets in Edinburgh with diverse independent shops?
John Sands
“Traffic and commuter levels haven’t yet returned to pre-pandemic levels”. What city are these councillors driving around, because it ain’t the same one as me. Since kids have gone back to school and more folk have returned to work all the major routes are congested at peak times again. The bypass is always busy from 10am till at least after 5pm.
Donna Marcus
If you stick to the 20 miles per hour limit and keep your eyes open, it's not an issue. Although I do see the comments about emergency services getting through, which is the real problem.
Fiona A Sampson
Everything is getting totally out of hand - no need for it. It's unbelievable what is happening at the moment, especially this completely ridiculous 20 mile an hour in lots of places, which causes more pollution. Somebody has to take all this in hand and sort all these ridiculous decisions and think before they implement them.

Hide AdI’m betting the whole thing will be scrapped, because that’s what Edinburgh council does. Will I be proved wrong?
Colin Gilbert
Most people (not all) have a choice about how they get around the city. Perhaps instead of moaning, some people could consider the opportunity in front of them. You could walk or perhaps cycle instead of creating a queue of nearly empty metal boxes. Leave the driving to tradesmen, delivery drivers and people with disabilities. You're welcome.
Christopher M McPhee
What a mess. They should have no complaints when they get voted out. The power has gone well and truly to their heads.
Murray Fell
They are staying quite about the low emissions zones that are coming in 2023. That is going to be even harder for everyone when it comes in to force.
John Black
Scrap them all, as social distance is going to be scrapped.

Hide AdExcellent news. It's a very necessary and promising experiment.
David Boswell
Everyone should get their tools out and scrap them, since the council won't.
John Monaghan
All businesses and residents directly affected by this nonsense should be sticking together to forcibly remove it and keep doing it over and over until CEC gets the message.
Frances Petrie-Hay
They think everyone will either have got used to it all or given up and moved away so they can proceed with the next stage of Disneyland Edinburgh.

Hide AdSpaces for People might be in place for the next 18 months, but the current council don't have to be as you can vote them out on 5 May 2022.
Colin Robertson
Just goes to show that public opinion means nothing to this council.
Monika Czudowska
Most people do not app-rove, it is annoying, no one wants it. Why is it still on?
Steven Oliver
CEC does listen to people - unfortunately these people are Spokes and Sustrans rather than the Edinburgh electorate.

Hide AdI work as a driver in the city centre. Twice in one day I saw ambulances unable to pass traffic. Hardly have public safety in mind?
Nick Crawley
The long slow death of a city.
Andrew McCormick
Sustrans is nothing but a self-financing quango. When I tried to get information from them regarding the Bears Way, built with public money, they blocked me because I was asking the wrong sort of questions. Why are the Scottish government and councils funding a company that doesn’t work in the public interest?
