Fringe organisers ask the people of Edinburgh to help decide its future

Dougie Reid

Edinburgh is the capital city and the Fringe is a big draw along with the Tatoo, historical buildings etc, and I am sure we have learned a few things in the last 12 months to make it a success and safe.

Johnny Mac

I miss moaning about the Fringe and the traffic.

Even if it's less international, I'd like a return to some kind of live shows this August. Surely between a combination of vaccine and social distancing, it'll be OK by then? And we can have lots of British acts in Edinburgh over, say, a fortnight rather than international acts over a month?

Anne Still

Can’t wait for the Fringe to come back, brings such a buzz to Edinburgh. I miss it.

Iria Forgie

Aye, I agree no Fringe this year. Let’s find our feet first before the pavements are hoachin.

Joshua Beal

No Fringe, or a Fringe on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Graeme Allan

I’d be happy if it’s cancelled for this year but comes back 2022 with a bang and everyone is safe.

Jess Austin

Honestly, just ditch it.

For the love of god, can we please ban the flier distribution and replace it with an app?

Gary Docherty

Fringe is brilliant for Edinburgh.

Margaret Quinn

Quality not quantity.

Allan Squair

Jumble sale, fairy cakes, oh, and get the Tron church back to the old market.

Elwin Molenaar

I guess the non-tourist population of Edinburgh will say: “get tae ****”.

Giuseppe Andreucci

Bring back the Fringe, we need to look at the big picture- the economy needs a boost in Edinburgh, the buzz. The Old Town needs it more than ever.

Keri Webber

Definitely a Fringe! The residents enjoy it too!

Fringe please! Lets allow our city come back to normal life.

Willie Leith

None this year, thanks!

Paul Sutherland

Why not have something radical, geared to locals for one year? This could be school classes getting free tickets or slashing prices. It's not for ever but they have an opportunity to engage and entice the local community to enjoy the Fringe again. I think some have felt dis-enfranchised in recent years.

Ian Simpson

Just like it was, world class, world famous - you cant get any better than that.

Mark Stocks

I want to see the fringe back to the way it was; who cares what the moaners want?

Christopher Solley

Of course it should stay- brings tourists.

I’d like to see less of a Fringe – can’t wait for the barbershop to open!

Toni Edwards

No Fringe, let the residents enjoy the city this year, if everything is open.

David Black

Hope it has no future. Self-entitled idiots who could not care less about the impact on the whole of the population. Keep the Arts Festival etc. but the Fringe, get rid.

Daniel Cranmer

Let’s not encourage tourists this year.

Funny how two years ago everyone was up in arms over the market in there being closed for the Heritage 'museum', but now that museum is somehow a national treasure.

William Taylor

Edinburgh World Heritage got the market tenants out and ensured the loss of over 60 jobs - people who were paying a substantial rent to the council, unlike themselves who had a proposal that they would secure non- existent lottery funding, only to put in a tack shop to collect rent for their own coffers. And then when the cash- strapped council tells them they can’t afford to sponsor their plans, they play the victims. And what exactly have they done to preserve the Tron. At least the the market guys spent their own money, not the council tax payers, on up-grading – new flooring, electrical upgrade etc

Maco Euan McAleece

Make it a community arts centre, not some ghastly tourist money pit, something that the local community can use.
