Prioritise vaccines for GPs over hubs

There appears to be a degree of confusion regarding the roll-out of the Covid vaccine caused in part by a report that everyone over 70 would shortly receive a blue (or possibly a white) envelope offering an appointment at a vaccination hub venue.

Some people in their early 70s have indeed begun to receive these letters, to the dismay of other family members in their late 70s – who have heard nothing and had hoped they would be prioritised, given that they are at greater risk.

What has not been widely reported is that those between 75-79 will not receive these letters, because they are to be vaccinated by their local GP practice.

Mine sets out these arrangements but with a caveat that we should not get too excited because the vaccine is in short supply and they have no idea when they will receive any.

In order to protect the most vulnerable first it would seem GP practices should be prioritised over hubs.

Nicola’s late to travel restriction game

Nicola Sturgeon is making a song and dance about tightening Westminster's travel quarantining arrangements. Management of the pandemic in Scotland is 100 per cent devolved - if the SNP believes so srtongly arrivals into Scotland should be quarantined, why say nothing until now, wait for the UK government to introduce quarantining and then criticise them?

This could have been done at any time since last March, but Ms Sturgeon chose now. This shouldn't be reduced to one of Ms Sturgeon's 'them and us' games with England, we're dealing with people's lives.

Boris should be free to travel to Scotland

Necessary or not, Boris Johnson will be welcome in Scotland for many of us. It is right that he be seen to be concerned about our welfare, particularly as many of us feel Scotland is being left behind.

If he didn’t show such interest he would be damned by the SNP, so better be damned for actually travelling here to show support. If the SNP really feel that unnecessary travel should be banned, why are they happy to see football teams travelling to every corner of the country, especially as they criticised one for an international trip they explicitly approved? If such a ban had been in place it would have prevented my team from receiving a drubbing on Tuesday.

Holyrood’s crocodile tears over BiFab failure

Holyrood's economy, energy and fair work committee described the failure of BiFab as a "huge blow" to workers and local communities.

These crocodile tears are ten years after Alex Salmond declared that Scotland could become the "Saudi Arabia of renewable energy". So what happened to the 28,000 jobs promised?

The 1293 turbines erected in Scotland over these ten years were manufactured abroad and it is only now that Holyrood's economy, energy and fair work committee have woken up to the problem.

The excuse from Scotland's SNP government was that EU rules meant that companies could not be given state aid to win a contract.

Yet many EU countries have found ways around this and just recently Jean-Pierre Farandou head of The Societe National des Chemins of France (SNCF) said that Eurostar will collapse without state aid.
